The Trofeo Princesa Sofía General Manager, Ferran Muniesa, and IBEROSTAR Managing Director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Aurelio Vázquez, signed this morning in Hotel IBEROSTAR Playa de Palma the agreement to confirm the hotel company’s sponsorship of the Mallorca regatta for another three editions, from 2018 to 2020.
Three weeks out from the start of the regatta, 555 teams have pre-registered in the 48 Trofeo Princesa Sofía IBEROSTAR
“IBEROSTAR has embraced the Trofeo Princesa Sofía during the past three editions, from 2015 to the present one in 2017. The renewal of this commitment gives us the strength to continue to be one of the best Olympic sailing events in the world, one of the favourite regattas for sailors”, said Muniesa at the signing meeting, during which he expressed, on behalf of the four organising authorities of the event -Federación Balear de Vela, Real Club Náutico de Palma, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and Club Nàutic S’Arenal- the gratefulness for the support received from IBEROSTAR.
Aurelio Vázquez was enthusiastic about the renewal of the commitment, especially with views to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the regatta in two years-time. “There are many reasons that drive us to sponsor the Trofeo Princesa Sofía –explained the IBEROSTAR delegate-, and among them, the fact we are a Mallorca Company that has been always linked to the sea, and on the other hand, the values of the sport, the effort, the respect for the opponents, team work, the understanding and care of the environment, values that are intimately bound up the way we work, the way we are”.
Besides Vázquez and Muniesa, the signing event was also attended by IBEROSTAR Marketing Director, Oscar González, and representatives of the organising entities: Sebastià Salas, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa Vice president; Oscar Estellers, Club Nàutic S’Arenal President and Manu Fraga, Real Club Náutico de Palma Sports Director –in the absence of Joaquín González Devesa, President of the Federación Balear de Vela-.
The Trofeo Princesa Sofía IBEROSTAR, which celebrates its 48th edition this year consolidated as one of the best Olympic sailing events in the World, will be held in waters of the bay of Palma from 24th March to 1st April, with several novelties. Among the most relevant of them, the return of the ORC, the introduction of new competition formats and the opening of the 49er FX, traditionally a women event, to mixed and male teams.
